Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

HISTORY

ASSEMBLIES OF GOD

Beginning of Pentecost Pentecost is one of the seven Jewish feasts. The Christian Church in history begins on a day of Pentecost (Acts 2:1-4) and the Christian Church must continue in that early experience. The Pentecostal church is the church that desperately wants and strives for that. For many reasons that primitive experience was ignored and covered up by the traditional churches. That lost spiritual glory was regained in the early 20th century.

The Beginning and Growth of the Assemblies of God

The Assemblies of God is the largest Pentecostal organization in the world. In 1901, under the leadership of Charles Perham, the Pentecostal movement began with an emphasis on Holy Spirit-filled worship. In 1914, several independent churches united in Hot Sprigs, Arkansas, USA, and adopted the common name Assemblies of God. This church, which holds to the orthodox teachings of the Bible, emphasizes the fact that speaking in tongues is a visible sign of the baptism of the Holy Spirit. The Assemblies of God is a Pentecostal church that embraces the basic doctrines of salvation, baptism by immersion, the anointing of the Holy Spirit, divine healing, and the return of Christ. The Assemblies of God are at the forefront of world evangelism, with a focus on holiness and revival. The Assemblies of God today have operations in 213 countries of the world, with a clear code of doctrine and organized administrative leadership.

Activities in India The Assemblies of God as a Pentecostal movement initiated missionary activities and church institutions in India. In 1915, a woman named Mary Chapman came to India as an official missionary of the Assemblies of God. RF Cook was also a missionary of this church in the early days. In 1916, Shun Maker's India Assemblies of God was formed. Aluva Section The head office of the Malayalam District Council of the South India Assemblies of God in Kerala is located at Punalur. This Malayalam District Council has 3 regions namely South Region, Central Region and North Region and 54 Sections.

CHURCH HISTORY

In the year 1986 as per the directions of  Pr. P D Johnson, Supdt. of Assemblies of God and also considering the desire of of the sisters Saramma and Susan who were residents of Kizhakkambalam, Evangelist Ponnachan, a graduate from Punalur Bethel Bible College along with three other evangelists arrived at Kizhakkambalam in connection with the missionary works of HMC. As part of their work, the first convention was held at Kitex junction, Vilangu and the following Sunday a worship service started in a rented building near Alakadavu canal at Kizhakkambalam- Aluva road ( near the present Twenty-20  super market). After a month’s service the evangelists from HMC returned.

Under the strong guidance of Pr. T P Thomas who came next, the work at Kizhakkambalam prospered. During that time, Evg.Kochuparambil Iype Mathew who was pastoring in the Baptist Church at David Appachan’s house, Mazhuvannur, along with David Appachan’s family joined the church at Kizhakkambalam. Furthermore, Varghese Mudakkalail, Poulose sir Kavattu from Mangalathunada, Mathai Mudakkalayil and family, Xavier and family, Br.Neshamani from Marthandam,  Br. Devaraj,  Sr.Sosamma Kallidakuzhiyil and Sr.Saramma joined the church. It was Br.  Nesamani and Sr. Saramma who took baptism first.

In 1988, the pastor was transferred and Pr.John Solomon took charge as pastor. Many accepeted Jesus as thier personal Lord and Savior and joined the church these days.  Sr.Susan Varghese and her family is behind buying the present land of the church. The land was bought when Pr.T P Thomas was pastorig at Kizhakkambalam and later under the leadership of Pr.Johnson Solomon, the present parsonage was constructed as prayer hall. In 1990 Pr.Johnson  Solomon got transferred and from 1990-2008 Pr.P U Kuriakose, Pr.Mathew John, Pr.M I Augustine, Pr.K C Thomas, Pr.Jomon George, Pr.E V Samuel, Pr.C R Francis pastored the church and many joined the chruch. During the pastorship of Pr.P U Kuriakose, due to the lack of sufficient space for worship service, a new hall was constructed adjoined to the present. Since 2008, Pr.Binoy Thankachan has been pastoring the church.
